Natalie Merchant performed at Town Hall last evening and extended her forays into narrative and storytelling through music with her current album, Leave Your Sleep. The album features poems about children (by well-known and unknown authors) that Natalie adapted into lyrics and music. Her unique and captivating voice and stage presence enthralled the audience. Natalie finished the 2-hour set with a couple of 10,000 Maniacs songs that were re-worked with her new acoustic band and sounded more grounded, deliberate and mature. She’s a treasure.
